ENGINEERING project manager

You will be responsible for managing multiple major engineering projects. These projects can be stand-alone or part of larger NPD (New Product Development) processes and/or initiatives. Your responsibilities include planning, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting on the project using various project management methods. You will supervise and coordinate the activities of the engineering project team members to ensure engineering project deliverables. Close collaboration with Product Management and the team's line managers is required. You should apply a good understanding of the NPD process from kickoff through product launch.


  • Project Planning
    • Work closely with engineering directors and managers and lead engineers to determine the detailed development scope based on overall project objectives
    • Based on engineering development scope and available resources, create detailed engineering work plans with input from team members and line managers
    • Create the engineering project schedule that feeds into the overall project schedule (where applicable)
    • Lead technical risk management analyses and planning meetings
  • Project Execution
    • Coordinate engineering activities to ensure deliverables are on time, at cost, within budget, and meet expected quality and performance targets
    • Track engineering project to ensure adherence to schedule / plan
    • Coordinate engineering project work by internal and external team members
    • Anticipate engineering deliverables in all phases, and clearly understand the philosophies of the various NPD phases
    • Communicate the maturity level and technical risks of the design and solicit subject matter expert feedback when needed
    • Regularly solicit feedback from engineering project team members, line mangers, and stakeholders to understand their needs
    • Remove barriers to the engineering project team working effectively and accomplishing their goals
    • Regularly update the technical risk management plan
    • Manage the storage and approval of engineering project documentation (non-CAD)
    • Coordinate preparation for pre-production builds
    • Support Product Management through effective communication and aggregation of engineering information
  • Project Financials
    • Prepare engineering project expense & tooling budgets
    • Monitor and track engineering project expenses
    • Monitor and track project tooling spend versus budget
  • Project Reporting & Communication
    • Schedule, create agendas, facilitate, and document regular engineering project meetings
    • Initiate special technical review meetings with Product Management and other key stakeholders to review and/or escalate key issues as needed
    • Regularly update and clearly and effectively present engineering project status to internal and external team members and stakeholders
    • Measure engineering project performance against pre-defined KPIs (key performance indicators)
    • Facilitate meetings to drive effective decision making
    • Prepare technical readiness documents for NPD gates
  • Miscellaneous
    • Provide input to line managers about engineering project team member performance as input for regular performance reviews
    • Regular international travel is required


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • 3 years' experience managing projects of comparable size and complexity
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and/or other project scheduling applications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good understanding of project accounting principles
  • Ability to monitor and control project budgets
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively across different levels of the company
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and product specifications
  • Self-starter, internally motivated


  • Extended studies in Project Management or Project Management certification
  • Progressive experience and responsibility working on developing new consumer products
  • 6 years' experience as a project manager
  • 3 years' experience managing complex, consumer good product development projects
  • Experience working with offshore suppliers, especially Asia
  • Familiar with SolidWorks
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
