Join our team and make a difference in the success of SawStop and the lives of thousands of users.

As a member of a New Product Development Team, you will be responsible for using engineering principles and knowledge to develop unique mechanical component and system solutions to solve medium-to-high complexity problems throughout the entire product development cycle and ultimately, bring these designs to production. This process includes concept generation, prototyping, design verification, system integration, design for manufacturing & assembly, production trials, and product qualification to prepare the new design for production.

You'll work closely with cross functional team members, establish plans to complete work packages, develop and execute qualification test plans, provide guidance to other engineering team members, and communicate results to the project leads.

  • Provide direction to shop associates for fabrication of mock-up and rapid prototype models
  • Perform hands-on evaluation and testing of prototypes
  • Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings within SolidWorks
  • Check accuracy and completeness of 3D CAD models and detailed drawings - your own as well as other engineer's
  • Clearly communicate design concepts, changes, and testing results to team members and stakeholders
  • Perform project management duties for engineering design activities
  • Establish best practice DFM (design for manufacturing) and DFA (design for assembly) principles for new designs
  • Define and document engineering test plans, product qualification requirements, and manufacturing specifications
  • Lead handover of product design responsibility to Sustaining Engineering once product is stabilized in production
  • Some international travel is required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 7 years' demonstrated experience in product design
  • Experience designing for a variety of manufacturing processes and materials (e.g., injection molded plastic, sheet metal stamping, die cast aluminum, cast iron, and machining)
  • 3D CAD software proficiency (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience performing geometric dimensioning and tolerance stack up analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across functional groups and diverse audiences, while working in a dynamic team and project-focused environment
  • Hands on practical skills - the ability to use basic shop tools, equipment, and measurement tools to build and test mockups and prototypes

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Demonstrated experience taking projects from concept into production
  • Experience working with Asian manufacturing companies
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and performing project management duties
  • Experience performing 3D CAD design simulation (e.g., Finite Element Analysis)
  • Prototyping and machine tool operation experience (e.g., milling machine, lathe, drill press, welding)
