This position is part of Electrical & Software Engineering team at SawStop.  This role is responsible for understanding, structuring a new architecture, incorporating new functions, testing and documentation of our core safety technology.  The position involves working closely with the rest of the staff, establishing procedures to complete tasks, and communicating results to the project leads.  The position reports to Electrical & Software Engineering manager.


  • Design and development of embedded software for company's proprietary Active Injury Mitigation (AIM) to
    • Support multiple execution threads
    • Meet strict timing requirements
    • Control and monitor multiple analog and digital peripherals
    • Comply with safety standards along the different phases in software development life cycle
  • Maintain and update the current embedded software as needed
  • Support simulation, testing and prototyping of new designs and concepts
  • Design and implement PC-SW-Tools for testing and improving embedded software during development
  • Develop procedures and evaluation methods to verify performance and functionality of product
  • Software, test and support documentation


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Capability to independent, self-driving work and to take initiative
  • Understanding operating systems and multi-tasking environments
  • Product development experience
  • Multiple embedded software design life cycles from early definition stage to manufacturing release: Architecture, design, implementation and testing.
  • Experience with programming with e.g. Assembly, Embedded C, Python
  • Track record in delivering Embedded SW as part of analog and digital circuit design teams, including board bring up and troubleshooting with tools such as debuggers and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience with test driven development techniques, unit testing framework, version control (e.g. SVN), bug tracking (e.g. JIRA), automated build and test tools
  • Experience with different microprocessors and peripherals, such as timers, ADCs, UARTs and DACs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills including documenting engineering projects, designs, and reports
